Agenda for the Day
10:00 AM - 10:15 AM
The Self-Care Village will open with a 2 minutes breathing exercise to set the tone for the day and to bring the group into alignment for activities ahead. Amu will spend a short time describing the purpose of the Self-Care Village and the mission of Best Life Retreat. This will be followed by a quick run of show, important reminders to ensure readiness and maximization of experience and finally provide short bios of practitioners.
10:15 AM - 10:45 AM
This session features a guided healing sound bath, a healing ancient ritual using sound bowls. The sound waves released by the bowls induce a feeling of deep relaxation and healing. Jessica will also use her voice as part of the sound bath experience. The vibrational frequencies of sound healing instruments like crystal bowls have the ability to move through skin, fluid, and bones of the body, creating a full body relaxation and recalibration down to the level of the cellular structure. The experience creates an environment of “resonance” within the body.
10:45 AM - 11:00 AM
Fifteen minute breaks are scheduled throughout the day. This is a time for participants to attend to personal needs, prepare for the next session and to get to know others in the group.

Yoga is great for EVERY body. Regardless of your physical abilities or level of experience, chair yoga is a practice that is beneficial to all. In this class you will use the support of the chair to arrive in yoga poses, move, breathe & ultimately feel good! Benefits of chair yoga include increased mobility, increase strength, stretch the body, reduce stress, reduce pain & clear the mind. Let's Play Yoga!

In this 45 min session, Baba Afam will show you how to do the basics of Self Zen Shiatsu massage for your self care and relaxation. This Japanese art, based on the philosophy of Chinese medicine, is very easy to apply and can be done almost anywhere at any time. We will touch on the concepts of meridians, acupoints, Chi-energy and Yin Yang philosophy as we learn how to do the touch and breathing techniques that will support your relaxation and self care efforts. Please wear loose comfortable clothing and be prepared to be able to transition from sitting on a chair or the floor, to lying, to standing. This will give us options to engage the body in creative ways as everyone's body type is different. Also it's best to not have jewelry on your neck or wrists.

The way you live your life can have a huge impact on the quality of life you live. Rest is vital to thrive, especially as we get caught up by the hustle and bustle of modern daily life. In this immersive workshop that includes short and fun rest assessments that will lay the groundwork to explore participants’ perception of rest; the group will examine strategies to re-center the important rest in day-to-day life and how to rest better.

With a fun and funky deep house music mix, that will be shared in advance of the event, the group will literally, put on their earphones, get up and shake it out the day’s activities in musical celebration together! After a 10 minute dance groove, Amu will lay out steps to maximize lessons learned during the day and how to stay connected.
